Rosenthal — German Porcelain Since 1879. Design, Art, and the Art of the Table.

Rosenthal

Philipp Rosenthal was seventeen when he crossed the Atlantic and progressed from dishwasher to porcelain salesman in America — returning to Bavaria in 1879 with a vision of what porcelain could become. Setting up a painting workshop in Erkersreuth Castle in Selb, and establishing his own factory in 1891, he built what would grow into one of the most design-forward porcelain manufacturers in the world: a company that created an in-house art department as early as 1910 — a distinction reserved at the time for royal factories — and went on to collaborate with Andy Warhol, Salvador Dalí, Tapio Wirkkala, and Walter Gropius's Bauhaus, among hundreds of the twentieth century's most significant artists and designers. The iconic Maria service, created in 1916 and still in production, reflects the brand's founding conviction that beauty and function are inseparable. Today, Rosenthal's Selb and Speicherersdorf factories produce porcelain made in Germany at the highest standards, serving the professional gastronomy and hotel industry alongside a global design-conscious consumer base. Part of the Arcturus Group alongside Sambonet, Ercuis, and Raynaud. At Pastry Chef's Boutique, Rosenthal is the German porcelain for those who understand that the table is a conversation between design and craft.
